Give total media blackout to Hawa Koomson – GJA president tells media houses

In light of the attack on writer David Kobbina, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has started a media power outage on Minister for Fisheries and Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson.



Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, president of the GJA, urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct an investigation and take action against those who were involved in the attack. He also urged the Ghana Police Service to respond to the incident as soon as possible.

With both the NPP and the police neglecting to act, the GJA proclaimed the media power outage during a public interview, refering to worries about the security of journalists.

Dwumfour underlined the priest's relationship with people representing a danger to the media.


We can no longer tolerate this level of impunity because it is the pinnacle of impunity. We thus serve notice that if by the end of Friday, January 12, 2024, these requests (sanctions) have not been met, we will exhort ourselves likewise," the GJA president said in response to the attack.

The power outage, supported by global partners and senior writers, is set to proceed with except if unmistakable moves are initiated against the culprits.

Hawa Koomson has denied any contribution in the attack, naming the allegations as politically spurred endeavors to discolor her standing.


The GJA, in asking fortitude among writers, accentuated the requirement for focusing on security in the impending NPP parliamentary essential races while keeping up with the most significant levels of amazing skill.

On January 4, 2024, the unfortunate assault on the journalist was widely condemned.

The aggressors blamed the casualty for offending Hawa Koomson on a Television program, a case the casualty denied, explaining he filled in as a morning show host of a radio broadcast.


He even created his ID card to back his case, however the aggressors felt free to jump on him within the sight of a the main cop to have greeted the person in question.
