EC is not ready to conduct 2024 elections – NDC

Deputy National Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Tanko Rashid Computer, has raised worries about the readiness of the Electoral Commission (EC) for the 2024 general elections.

He noted that the Commission has not presented its program of exercises, bringing up issues about its readiness for the impending races.

Speaking on JoyNews Newsfile on Saturday, February 3, Dr. Rashid cited issues with the electoral register and a lack of ballot papers that prevented some people from voting in the recent District Assembly elections.

"This year they will do another enrollment. At the time we were at the IPAC meeting, the Constituent Commission didn't have the guide for the 2024 political decision. They have not given us the guide and their program of exercises.

"We requested it, and they told us at the following IPAC meeting, they planned to make it accessible. "Until now, they did not have it at the next IPAC meeting we attended," Dr. Rashid stated.

Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer went on to say that the Electoral Commission (EC) is currently putting out advertisements for people to apply to be returning officers for the upcoming elections.

He stressed that the Commission has not yet presented its program of exercises to the ideological groups, as required.

"For that reason I say, their stance lets us know that they are not even prepared, as far as I might be concerned, in any event, for the December 2024 races," he added.
